While I use a 3GS iPhone, I must admit that I have not gotten into iPad. Maybe I’ll do so after Apple upgrades the device to V2.0, whenever that might be. In any case, I was intrigued to find that “Active Directory, 4th edition” from O’Reilly Books is now available as a book that you can read on an iPad or iPhone. You can find details here. The print version is available at Active Directory: Designing, Deploying, and Running Active Directory.
The author line up for this book is very impressive. Brian Desmond and Joe Richards both worked in HP Services, where they enjoyed an excellent reputation as technical leaders in the Active Directory space. Brian has since left HP and I am working with him at the Exchange 2010 Maestro seminar series where he is the “lab master” who has to dream up compelling and challenging lab exercises to complement the lectures that Paul Robichaux and myself deliver.
I don’t know the other two authors (Robbie Allen and Alistair G. Lowe-Norris) but both seem to have solid writing records. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to coordinate writing a book between four authors, so to bring something out that is so useful is a real achievement.
Now I’m off to ask Microsoft Press, who now publish in co-operation with O’Reilly Media, whether they plan to publish my Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Inside Out book using this route, or maybe even as a Kindle version. Maybe that will convince me to buy an iPad…

Update 23 September: Microsoft Press has confirmed that O’Reilly will make the Exchange 2010 book available through multiple platforms. I anticipate that a Kindle version and an iTunes version will be released and that you’ll also be able to eventually access the book via the Safari online book platform.
Looks great, I’ll pick this one up today. Hopefully you can convince them on an electronic release for your book! I’m a field engineer in NYC who is always in the subways so carrying around a 1000+ page book is very difficult.
